Our rights to life and liberty are secured by our right to keep and bear arms.
Self-preservation and defense of family and home are personal responsibilities. Legislation that restricts the use of firearms, disarms law-abiding citizens, or violates a citizen’s right to protect themselves and others against life threatening criminal behavior will be legislation guaranteed to receive the veto pen if I am governor.
In the wake of the horrific terrorist attack at the Orlando Pulse night club and the recent terrorist attack at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, the ability of our citizens to protect themselves through the exercise of their second amendment rights must be protected and strengthened. Law-abiding members of society must be allowed to defend themselves. I will work with the Florida legislature for the revocation of government-mandated “Gun Free Zones”. I support “Open Carry” by concealed weapons licensees as an additional deterrent to these types of attacks.
I will also support the rights of concealed carry permit holders to carry on the campuses of our universities and state colleges. Colleges and Universities are currently mandated “Gun Free Zones”. They cannot guarantee the safety of their students and therefore should not deprive them of the ability to protect themselves. Utah is one of eight States that allow “Campus Carry”. Utah University officials report no improper incidents on campus in the 10 years that carrying on campus has been allowed. This is what I will fight for to keep our students safe.
